VIQ Solutions complaints: What you can do
If you have relied on a court or tribunal transcript, or the underlying audio recording, and are worried about accuracy or delays in receiving them, we want to hear from you. Handle My Complaint is collecting VIQ Solutions complaints from Australians affected by the scandal, including possible data breaches, inaccurate transcripts and other issues.
VIQ Solutions, which was contracted to record hearings in Australian courts and tribunals as well as many other government agencies, came under fire after an ABC News investigation revealed the company had subcontracted some of its transcription work to Indian firm e24 Technologies. Commonwealth contracts explicitly prohibit sending sensitive Australian court data offshore.
Staff say they raised concerns internally as early as August 2025 but were told to stop spreading rumours. As the pressure for answers increased, the Federal Court brought in outside cyber security specialists to review VIQ’s data controls. In March 2026, the company’s Australian operations were placed into voluntary administration before winding up in June.
What we’re investigating and why
Handle My Complaint is examining multiple issues with the court transcripts, as well as problems accessing or relying on the underlying audio recordings that those transcripts are supposed to reflect.
A transcript is only as good as the recording it is made from. With the company producing it sending some work offshore and since ceasing operations, the accuracy of the transcript and your ability to access it could be affected.

With VIQ Solutions providing services to at least 13 government agencies, including the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Securities and Investment Commission, and the Fair Work Commission, the issue is not confined to the courts, either.
There are myriad concerns about VIQ Solutions’ handling of recordings and transcripts, including:
-
- Hearings not recorded
- Parts of recordings hard to hear or missing
- Inaccurate words or statements
- Missing sentences or entire sections
- Delays in accessing transcripts or getting them corrected
- The cost of obtaining recordings or transcripts
- Transcripts processed by overseas agencies
- Information accessed by unauthorised people
We are building a clearer picture of the scale and impact of the VIQ Solutions scandal, so we can determine how many Australians have been affected and in what ways, as well as what it has cost individuals in time, stress, money or even the outcome of a legal matter.
This will help us to push for answers, accountability and, where appropriate, for compensation for people who have been let down.
How to tell if you have been affected
You may want to submit a VIQ Solutions complaint if any of the following applies to you.
-
- You have appeared in, or relied on, records from a Federal, State or Family Court, tribunal, or a government hearing where the proceedings were recorded.
- You have experienced a court transcript delay that pushed back an appeal, a deadline or legal advice you were waiting on.
- Your transcript contained errors, had sections missing, or didn’t match your recollection of what was said.
- You have had trouble obtaining either the transcript or the original audio recording, or even getting a straight answer about the recording.
- You have requested a correction or asked for clarification regarding a transcript without response.
- You are concerned that a call to a government department, or your appearance in a legal proceeding, may have been processed by VIQ Solutions without your knowledge.
What information you should gather
Before you report transcript issues to us, it is important to make sure you have all the relevant information. This includes:
-
- The court, tribunal or government department involved, along with the case, file or reference number
- The date of the hearing, interview or phone call
- Any correspondence with the court, department or VIQ Solutions about your transcript or recording
- Copies of any transcripts you received, including the parts you believe are incorrect or missing
- Details of any delays in the receipt of transcripts or recordings
- Information about how the issue affected you, such as a missed appeal deadline, extra legal costs, or even the stress and uncertainty you experienced
What you can do right now
With contingency arrangements in place in the wake of VIQ Solutions’ collapse, processing times and points of contact may have changed since your hearing. The Federal Court, for example, is now using a number of transcript providers and until those systems are well established, the court’s recording and transcript team is coordinating the allocation of transcript orders.
If your transcript isn’t available or you are not confident in the accuracy of one provided, contact the relevant court registry in writing and ask for the status of your transcript. Courts generally hold their own copies of hearing recordings independently of transcription services, but whether you can access the recording depends on the court involved.

While regulators and government are still determining the best course of action, we recommend:
-
- Keeping a written record of every call, email and response, including dates and the name of the person you spoke to
- Raising any concerns with the court or your legal representative if you believe a deadline, such as an appeal period, is at risk because of a transcript delay. Sometimes courts will make allowances if a delay is outside your control.
- Lodging a formal privacy complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commission if you have any concerns about how your personal information was handled.
